点评:This was my first ever visit to Nottingham and Eastwood, specifically to get a sense of the area which formed the literary giant, D H Lawrence. I have been a lifelong Lawrence fan from youth to now 80.
I was particularly interested in the Museum as the photos reminded me of my grandmother's small house in a mining area in Co Durham where my father grew up. On top of that I wanted to see the surrounding countryside which Lawrence knew and obviously loved. So for me the monthly first Tuesday's guided walk was also a must.
Starting from the Museum the walk was a treat. An interesting and enthusiastic group of individuals. Plus enthusiastic leaders who knew their stuff. It culminated at the site of Brinsley colliery, where Lawrence's father worked and his uncle was killed, absolutely central to Lawrence's "autobiography" - Sons and Lovers. Then back to the Museum for coffee. And the offer of an impromptu tour of the house. It didn't disappoint. It was slightly uncanny, bringing to mind memories of visits to Grandma 70 years ago.
