点评:I made a reservation with the La Méridionale ferry at very short notice and was delighted to find that a cabin was still available. My crazy itinerary that day led from Beaulieu sur Mer to Porto Vecchio — and for anyone who knows the region, it is quite a distant and complicated journey (bus 15, bus 57, TGV to Marseille, taxi to the terminal, and finally the ferry).
Not everything went according to plan. I left the rented apartment up the hill at noon, thinking that this would give me plenty of time to board the ferry at 17:30. How wrong I was. First, the train from Beaulieu to Nice Ville was not running normally that day (travaux), so the direct journey to the station was impossible. I had to take buses instead — which takes twice as long.
The train to Marseille departed at 12:50 and was already waiting at the platform, so I was confident I would reach Marseille in good time. How wrong I was! The TGV arrived punctually, but the taxi driver took me to the wrong terminal — and, assuring me it was the right one, promptly left. It was the Corsica Linea terminal, not La Méridionale, and the correct one was seven kilometres away. God, was I furious with that taxi driver.
It was 16:30, and the last boarding for piétons was at 17:00. I barely made it, practically with my tongue hanging out. But the welcome was so warm that I immediately regained my usual composure and serenity. The very friendly crew greeted me with: “Where have you been all this time?” And suddenly, I felt at home.
From the first moment, the whole journey was an absolute delight: the professional check in, the breathtaking views, and the unique, still watered, slow swaying, soft breaking, whisper tided, peace laden atmosphere of sea travel. I took many videos and photos which I will use over time — one of the loveliest being a full sunset at sea filmed from the top deck.
The cabin was very clean, the fish and chips were excellent, and — last but not least — the crew were exceptionally friendly and welcoming. I would like to say hello to them! Hi Guys, the ones who talked to me at the restaurant in the evening – unfortunately, I don’t know your names.
About an hour before arrival, we were given a wake up call at 6:30 a.m., not the easiest hour after a few drinks at the bar — but I think it was the most pleasant wake up call of my life: the sound was the famous Corsican singer Petru Guelfucci singing Corsica. What a perfect beginning to a visit to this beautiful island.
