点评:Our visit began with a traditional welcome where we were invited to dance with the tribe. We were then shown into the village and had a demonstration of fire starting using a hand drill. Fine until now. We were then taken to the "school" which was best described as a stick enclosure with around 10 kids inside. They sang us a song incorporating the alphabet and read a few numbers of a board, but it all felt a little sterile and staged. We were trying to interact, smile and make faces at the kids, but they just seemed totally switched off. Then it got a bit sketchy. Our group of 5 was split into 3 groups and shown inside a traditional Masai hut, fine. But we were then taken to a large display of "home made" bracelets, pendants, carvings, place mats etc. This market circled the entire central gathering space of the village and was clearly a core function of the village. We were then pressured to make a selection of purchases with the insistence that we would be told the price only when we had finished selecting items. Me and my girlfriend cautiously selected a bracelet, pendant & carving and were informed they would cost us $85!!! We subsequently saw similar merchandise at street and beach vendors for $5-$10 apiece. We managed to negotiate down to $65 but it was a pressurised and intimidating experience as villagers hover around with machetes by their side. This whole visit felt staged to extract as much money from tourists as possible and it was a shame to see the Masai portrayed as hustlers in this way.
