点评:We hiked Reykjadalur (literally, “reeky dale” or “steamy valley”) in mid-August with our two daughters aged 9 and 12. The hike was challenging for our younger one, but she made it nevertheless. We saw quite a number of other families on the trail with even younger children. Some of them were noticeably struggling, so this hike may not be suitable for young children. The scenery around us was spectacular. We saw many steaming fumaroles, waterfalls, and grazing sheep on hillsides. It took us a little over an hour to reach the bathing area, where we enjoyed bathing in geothermal waters.
Changing facilities here are rustic -- bring a towel to wrap around yourself as you change into your bathing suit. We did see two women, apparently a mother and her daughter, soaking fully naked, so you can also enjoy taking the waters au naturel, if so inclined.
At the top of the bathing area the water was so hot that it was barely tolerable to get in, but it cools off somewhat as if flows downstream. You can move up and down the river as a way to adjust water temperature to your liking. Past visitors had used stones to build a series of mini dams along the river’s flow to create a chain of natural soaking tubs.
