点评:After our trip to the Lakes had to be rescheduled, we wanted to find somewhere to Paddleboard together for our anniversary, and a Paddleboarding group I joined on Facebook recommend Rudyard Lake.
I rang ahead to make some enquiries and spoke with one of the rangers (I think his name was Ray). He was very helpful and advised that I book our session online before arrival to secure a parking space at the Dam Side (near all the Lakeside activities and launch areas) so I did.
***£12 per board / craft (not per person) and this cost includes all day paddleboarding and your parking too. No paddleboard license required.***
We travelled over the evening before (as we were 1hr 45mins away) in our campervan and ended up staying in the Rudyard Railway car park (2 mins away from the Lake). There were no signs to indicate that overnight parking wasnt allowed, and I googled it too and it stated it was open 24 hours and that it can often be used for overnight car / campervan stays.
It was a lovely quiet spot and of course we left with no trace.
We later realised that you can actually stay in the Rudyard Hotel Car Park for a small fee if you dine there too. So next time, we will do that, as the Hotel looked lovely 😍
The morning of our session we made our way to the car park and the Rangers Office to confirm our booking. We were given wristbands to wear and then Ranger Chris got us parked up overlooking the lake.
There's toilets, changing facilities and also a cafe there too.
It really is a beautiful Lake and perfect if you're new to paddleboarding.
We launched down at the dam side (there's two options: to launch from the "beach" area or from the platoon. We opted with the beach area). It was very easy to launch from here as its shallow and calm so its the perfect place to get your bearings before heading out to explore the rest of the Lake.
If you are paddleboarding, I recommend wearing water shoes or an old pair of trainers as the bottom of the Lake is muddy and there are stones / rocks which can feel sharp on your feet.
We spent a good few hours exploring the lake and really enjoyed it. We paddled up towards the sailing club's area and beached there for a drink and a stretch of the legs.
Afterwards, we beached our boards back at the dam side and got changed before heading to the cafe for a well deserved cuppa and some cake.
All-in-all I can certainly recommend it here. Whether it be for a walk, cycle, paddle, kayak, or fishing. Its a wonderful place and we shall definitely be back. The rangers cant do enough for you and are accessible at all times. The Lake has a circular trail all the way around (its around 5 miles maximum we were told) and also has the light railway train running along one side of the lake.
