点评:My husband and I had a truly remarkable 2 day cultural journey in the Andean foothills with Saraurku Operadora. We hoped it would be different from a regular sightseeing tour and were wonderfully surprised by how real and authentic everything about our days were. We were welcomed into the communities, farms and families. We shared lengthy conversations over numerous topics, fresh food from their farms, and actively participated in their daily lives and cultural traditions. We harvested yucca and tropical fruits for the almuerzo (lunch) that Luis made us in a traditional clay oven. We visited 2 coffee farms and learned much about growing, processing and the environmental conditions necessary for producing Ecuador's famous aromatic coffee. We picked the 20 necessary flowers and plants from Rosa's garden to make the traditional beverage Horchata served with cena (dinner). We couldn't believe how far up into the isolated corners of the foothills we went, through beautiful landscapes.
We were happy to monetarily support Saraurku's mission to preserve Ecuador's communities, cultural heritage and environment. It's a well regarded community tourism project that's a win/win for the communities and the participating visitors. Guides Lauro and Ruth are phenomenal. They can explain everything about the people, culture, environment and answer all your questions. They designed a specific itinerary for our tour based on our particular interests. Saraurku says their tour might just change your view of the world. It did add to the way I see the world to experience a way of living so rooted in community, the beauty of the land and an old culture and traditions that bring belonging and comfort.
