I am writing to formally raise a complaint about an incident that occurred on Wednesday, 1st April, at your Clarehall location.
I attended with my sisters, brother, and friends to celebrate a birthday. All of the children in our group are between the ages of 6 and 8. While the two boys in our group were allowed to play without any issue, their sister was approached by a staff member named Jeremiah and told to leave the play area. The reason given was that she was “too tall,” despite the fact that she is only slightly over 4 feet tall.
This situation was extremely upsetting. The child in question became very distressed, crying on the floor while watching her brothers continue to play without her. She had been looking forward to this outing all week, and the experience left her feeling hurt and excluded.
What made the situation even more concerning was the apparent inconsistency in how the rules were enforced. During our visit, we observed at least two other individuals in the play area who appeared significantly taller—one child who seemed over 5’3” and even an adult present on the higher level of the play structure. Despite this, no action was taken in those cases.
Given these observations, it is difficult not to feel that my sister was unfairly singled out. I am particularly concerned that this may have been influenced by her appearance, as she is slightly bigger in build. Regardless, she was within the stated age limits and did not appear out of place compared to others using the facility.
I would appreciate clarification on your height and supervision policies, as well as an explanation as to why they were not applied consistently in this instance. Most importantly, I would like reassurance that no child will be made to feel excluded or singled out in this manner in the future.
If you're bringing your kids here make sure they're not chubby or they'd be told to not play !
