点评:We chose to take the MRT and then the BTS to get to Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen.
This was followed by a short walk through the local neighbourhood, which was amazing in itself.
On our way back to the city centre, we realised that we had taken a rather circuitous route to get to the temple. For ease of reference, if you’re using the BTS and MRT systems, I’d suggest taking the BTS Silom Line to Bang Wa Station, then interchanging with the MRT at Bang Wa and travelling one stop back to Bang Phai Station — a very short trip.
At Bang Phai, take Exit 1. The temple is about 800 metres from the station. Simply turn left, then take the first right and follow the road. It’s reasonably well signposted, but if all else fails, Google Maps does the trick. Of course, the Buddha is so large that it can be seen from quite far away.
Apparently, there are also long-tail boat rides available from Sathorn Pier, which we’ll definitely try on our next visit.
Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen is spectacular — both in scale and detail. The surrounding complex is just as impressive as the massive 69-metre-tall Buddha, which for perspective is roughly the height of a 23-storey residential building.
The Great Stupa (Maharatchamongkhon), located just behind the Buddha, is an 80-metre pagoda. There’s even an elevator for visitors who may find the stairs challenging. The top floor features a dazzling emerald-green glass ceiling that is absolutely breathtaking.
After exploring the stupa and surrounding buildings, we spent a few quiet moments sitting in the courtyard directly in front of the Buddha. Despite the number of visitors, it felt deeply peaceful, spiritual, and almost ethereal.
If you’re visiting Bangkok, do yourself a favour and make time to visit this temple. It is absolutely worth the effort to get there
