Peter picked us (family of 3) up at Hexham for our day trip to see the Wall. We made several stops to see some of the popular sights (the forts) as well as some of the more less travelled sights.
Peter provided a great history of the Romans in Britain, the popular theories behind the need for the wall, and even provided some thoughts on alternative theories. “Why did they put a gate THERE!” sticks out.
Even in the museums, Peter guided us around and provide so much insight. History mixed with humor - he was able to highlight the history behind the artifacts. He even had his own maps that we used to understand the history of Roman forts, how the legions lived and moved, and what the artifacts tell us of life on the wall.
Pack walking shoes and a rain jacket and reach out to Peter to show you the wall and how it was impacted by local culture. And it is still impacting the area today.
