点评:I stumbled across this bronze statue on a freezing Tuesday afternoon around 3 PM while walking through the old Jewish quarter in Vilnius. What really caught my eye and kept me standing there in the light snow was the sheer warmth of the scene between the doctor and the little girl. Most monuments are stiff and formal, but Dr. Shabad is bending down with such a gentle smile, listening to this girl holding a cat in her arms. The bronze on the kitten's ears is rubbed totally smooth and shiny from so many people touching it over the years, which made me smile despite the biting cold wind. Seeing that kind interaction right on the street corner gives a very unique sense of the real neighborhood life that once thrived here. It is definately one of the most touching street memorials I have seen in Europe, and I am glad I took twenty minutes out of my day just to stand there and take in the details.
