Gardens are great, restaurant not so much

点评：This review is based on the restaurant - we felt that the gardens were enjoyable and spent a good amount of time in them today.
We felt it would be more appropriate to leave a review on here after our experience as we didn’t want to display any negativity in front of the children since the visit was for a birthday celebration.
The problem is with the food -there is a large discrepancy between what we paid and what we got which largely comes down to quality - which was lacking.
The quality of the Alice Afternoon Tea experience needs to improve in order to justify the price that customers are paying for it.
We felt that the food did not look or taste fresh and the scones were very dry and the dessert selection included was unnecessarily odd and unpleasant. We understand that a bit of whimsy is necessary considering the theme, but the substance just wasn’t there unfortunately.
Expecting payment as soon as we walked in to be seated at the our pre-booked table felt off especially since we had paid a deposit in advance which made me feel a little suspicious of what was to come.
We were asked if we enjoyed the food, and if everything was ok -to which we aimed to stay polite and neutral although it was challenging - but unfortunately the restaurant experience was a massive let down for us.
I can see us returning for the gardens in future but will be skipping the restaurant as we genuinely felt that the dining experience was a waste of money which we cannot afford.
We ate the food begrudgingly because we had paid so much for it, but we failed to enjoy it sadly.
The children were still hungry an hour later and we ended up eating out elsewhere shortly afterwards.
I think that afternoon tea is considered a luxury experience and it’s often reflected in the price which we are happy to pay providing its fresh, enjoyable and there’s value which sadly wasn’t the case today.
