点评:We visited Jamestown Lighthouse today. The lighthouse itself was locked, and shortly after arriving we were approached by a man who claimed to be an “official African guide”.
He appeared unkempt and smelled strongly of alcohol (photo attached in case others are approached). Before proceeding, we checked with a nearby security guard who indicated he was a recognised local guide, so we agreed to continue.
He charged 5 cedis per person, per stop, and took us to three locations. Unfortunately, aside from showing us the dungeon, most of the information he provided appeared inaccurate. After the visit, we checked details independently and found that several claims about the sites were either exaggerated or entirely fabricated. In reality, many of the places shown were simply residential homes presented as historical landmarks.
At the end of the tour, he took us to what he described as a local school he supports and asked for a donation. The situation felt uncomfortable and pressured, and we ended up giving 200 cedis.
In hindsight, we would strongly recommend arranging a verified, official guide in advance rather than relying on individuals who approach you on arrival.
Jamestown clearly has significant history and potential, but the overall experience felt poorly managed and somewhat exploitative, which was disappointing.
