点评:We were visiting from Ireland 🇮🇪 and had a truly fantastic visit to Torre del Brandale with my teenage daughter, who is a massive history lover.
This place is an absolute hidden gem in Savona!
It is important to note that the tower is only open to the public once a week on Saturday mornings (from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM). This limited availability is completely understandable when you learn it is lovingly preserved and run entirely by local volunteers from the historical association A Campanassa.
These dedicated folks give up their weekend free time around their day jobs to keep Savona's history alive, and their passion shines through completely.
We were lucky enough to have an exceptional local guide who spoke English. They walked us through the fascinating, turbulent story of the building and Savona itself—from its medieval roots and its 16th-century destruction by the Genoese, right up to how the association painstakingly restored the tower back to its original 50-metre height in the 1930s.
It was incredibly informative, engaging, and perfect for anyone with an eye for history.
To top it all off, the climb to the top rewarded us with breathtaking, beautiful views over the city of Savona and the old harbour from the bell tower.
It was a wonderful, satisfying experience and easily one of the highlights of our trip. A massive thank you to the brilliant volunteers of A Campanassa for their service and hospitality. Highly recommended—just make sure you plan your Saturday morning around it!
Five stars.
