Great idea that is poorly executed
Abilene & Smoky Valley Railroad的点评
点评：We purchased tickets through the website. Once on board …there were tons of kids and babies… so much so that we found it odd! We couldn’t figure it out .. after investigation we realized it was a Sunflower Pass that allowed Kansas families to attend various attractions throughout Kansas at reduced rates or in some Instances free. Commendable. However, some parents were not well versed in keeping their kiddos respectfully in their seats. Kids were literally running around the train the entire time.
Beyond that .. the only good thing about this very rundown and dirty train ( literally elbow grease would have fixed about 75% of the problem) was the person giving the history lesson of train travel in Kansas as well as the history of the Abilene train station and line. He was stellar and sounded like he had worked in radio or TV. Very professional. The beautiful Kansas country side was also a plus.
The train ( we rode behind a diesel engine
Locomotive) goes very slow and only goes 5.5 miles to a small town where there is absolutely nothing but an unkempt grist mill with some sundries and a weird collection of thrift store items which is … you guessed it… also owned by the train line. You are a captive audience as no one else would likely voluntarily stop there. The grist mill itself is somewhat interesting if you have never seen one; however, this one was very messy with things lying about everywhere. I’m guessing there is not enough man power to run it effectively.
The premise of this historic train line and tour is wonderful. I can only assume that they are struggling to stay solvent. Which is sad. It would have been a much better experience for all if they would put more effort into the train itself. Keeping it clean and making repairs would take effort but would not cost a lot. We walked through a kitchen car that was leaking and very dirty and needed repair of leaks.
I am loathe to write a bad review of this historic train ride as it held such promise. I am hopeful that the board will consider when tourists spend 35 bucks a person to ride a train a few miles it should take stock in the condition of the train cars. Our party of 4 was very disappointed… maybe it was just a bad day on bad train cars … but it sure was not what we expected.

这条历史悠久的铁路线及其旅游项目本身的理念非常不错。我只能推测他们目前正为维持运营而苦苦挣扎。这真令人惋惜。如果他们能多花些心思在火车本身上，对所有人来说都会是更好的体验。保持火车的整洁并进行必要的维修虽然需要付出努力，但成本其实并不高。我们穿过了一节正在漏水且极其脏乱、需要修理的车厢。
我真不愿意给这次历史悠久的火车之旅写下差评，毕竟它原本充满希望。我希望管理方能意识到：当游客愿意花35美元来乘坐这段短短几英里的火车时，他们理应确保车厢状况良好。我们一行四人都非常失望——或许只是那天恰巧赶上了状况不佳的车厢罢了……但绝对不符合我们的预期。
