点评:We did three tours with Sam travel. The first one was the sacred Valley tour with Christian as our tour guide. Christian did a great job of telling us the history behind the different sites in the sacred Valley and giving context to what we were seeing as well as tying Inca history to modern Peruvian history and events. It was a long day, but we learned a lot.
For our next two tours, which were the 2-day Inca Trail and Rainbow Mountain we had Ray as our tour guide. He was one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had. He is such a wealth of knowledge and knew the answer to every random question we asked him, as well as being engaging and entertaining. We had a group of nine hikers of varying abilities, and he did a great job of encouraging everybody and setting a good pace. On top of that he is a fantastic photographer and knew all the best spots to take photos. We also had Jovana as an assistant guide and she also did a great job leading the group and making sure everybody stayed on track.
I really liked that we got to spend time in Machu Picchu on our first day at the end of our long hike entering through the Sun gates and then we were able to return on the second day to explore a different circuit in more detail. We also added the extra option of hiking up Hyuana Picchu Mountain, which was challenging but well worth the effort. Ray recommended an excellent spot for lunch after we came back down to Aguascalientes and made sure that everybody knew where and when to meet to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo.
On our rainbow mountain excursion, I opted to take the horse (about 80 soles) which I highly recommend because despite having acclimated for four days prior, it’s a much higher elevation than Cusco or Machu Picchu and there were some in our group that had a lot of issues with the altitude. It’s actually not a difficult hike otherwise, but taking the horse allowed me to enjoy the views of the mountains and glaciers better. We also added on the optional short hike to the Red Valley, which was also beautiful and highly recommended, with much fewer tourists.
Overall we had a great trip thanks to Sam travel Peru and our fantastic guides.
