点评:There are no review here since 2023, so the following is based on what’s now called The Nomad Museum, in a new building in a different location, so please plan accordingly.
I am going to hazard a guess that I visited the newer iteration and location of this museum. The one we visited, August 2026, during the World Nomad Games, was about 20-30 minutes west of down town Cholpan Ata on the main, lake-hugging road.
The building is spacious, with three floors of exhibitions and lots of adjacent parking.
There was an excellent collection of prehistoric artifacts, some contemporary art (in the form of reinterpreted tribal “costumes”), and textile / jewelry displays. During the Games, there was also, oddly, ann excellent display of regional art in the huge courtyard, which I hope survived the torrential rains. That same courtyard housed some of the fascinating ancient stone figures, as well as more modern sculpture. I assume those are there permanently
If you don’t know the significance of those stone figures holding the “wineglass”, find
someone to explain it to you. Fascinating.
A good jumping off point if nomadic culture is foreign to you.
Also strongly suggest a visit to the gorgeously displayed National History Museum in Bishkek.
