Our guide was phenomenal: incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and clearly passionate about both the primates and the forest ecosystem. He could locate the troop by sound alone, navigating us through the lush undergrowth with ease and safety. Within minutes of arriving, we were face-to-face with a large family group — grooming, playing, swinging overhead, and completely unfazed by our presence. It felt surreal, like stepping into a nature documentary.
The chimps' human-like expressions and behaviour are deeply moving. Watching a mother cradle her infant or two males engage in a dominance display reminded us just how close we are as species — humbling and awe-inspiring all at once.
The park itself is pristine, and the conservation work being done here is commendable. You can see the genuine dedication to protecting these incredible animals and their habitat.
