Families Should Know: Campsites and Playgrounds Are Not Smoke-Free

点评：Families should be aware before booking that Anastasia State Park does not offer smoke-free outdoor family areas in the campground or at any park playgrounds. During our stay, park rangers confirmed that tobacco smoking was permitted at the playgrounds, and smoke from neighboring campsites drifted into family camping areas, including near picnic tables and utility hookups. If you are traveling with children, asthma, smoke sensitivity, pregnancy concerns, or other health concerns, do not assume your campsite or the playground will be healthy or safe.
The beach and surrounding area are beautiful, and there are many family-friendly things nearby that I would still recommend: Fort Matanzas, Castillo de San Marcos, the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, beach time, and surfboard rental just before the park entrance. The beach itself was less of a smoke issue during our stay because of wind and open air, but the campground and playground areas were a major concern for our family.
This policy is especially surprising because nearby St. Johns County takes a different approach for county-managed areas. St. Johns County does not allow smoking or vaping in its county parks and on county beaches, while Anastasia State Park allows outdoor smoking broadly including at all 3 playgrounds within the park.
The park is beautiful, but this should be disclosed much more clearly before booking and on camper information pages. Families deserve to know in advance that there are no smoke-free camping loops, smoke-free playground areas, or any reliable smoke-free buffer between campsites.
