An intimate and genuinely worthwhile dolphin experience

点评：We arrived relatively late in the afternoon, just after 2pm, with the Dolphin Research Center closing at 3:30pm, so we weren't expecting to get a huge amount from our visit. In fact, we were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it.
There were fewer than 15 visitors while we were there, which made the experience feel incredibly quiet and intimate compared with some of the larger attractions. It meant we were able to listen to a couple of the talks and, importantly, spend some time chatting with individual trainers and educators who had the time to talk to us properly.
We were particularly impressed by the knowledge of one of the educators, MacKenzie. She was clearly extremely knowledgeable and passionate about her subject, rather than simply delivering stock information from a prepared script. That came across particularly strongly when responding to questions.
What really stood out, though, was just how passionate all educators and trainers were about the dolphins. Being so close to the animals, you could genuinely see the care and affection they had for them. It was also reassuring to hear, both during the talks and in our individual conversations, how much emphasis they place on the welfare and care of the animals.
This is clearly a valuable non-profit organisation doing important work, and we were very happy to have supported it by visiting. Despite only having around 90 minutes there, we felt we'd had a really worthwhile experience.
I'd definitely recommend the Dolphin Research Center, particularly if you're travelling through the Keys between Key West and the northern Keys. It's a much smaller and more intimate experience than some of the big attractions, and for us, that was a big part of its appeal.
I wish everyone there the very best with their continued work and conservation efforts.
