点评:Parking is limited at the base of the Wrekin, in two very small car parks so take your chances. You’ll need water and in my case, a new set of lungs.
From the moment you leave the car park it’s all uphill. And I mean, uphill. There are numerous steep inclines that twist and turn and just keep going up and up. There are some views as you walk up but most of it is hidden by trees. You will see the odd nice views between them though. Underfoot is a combination of hard stone or gravel. Decent walking shoes are a must. I envied those wearing trainers! I read that it takes a moderately fit person 40 minutes to the summit. Dearest gentle reader, after an hour I was only 80% of the way up and I had to stop numerous times as the incline in some sections was brutal and I had to stop and catch my breath. We paid for 2 hours parking and I was worried we’d get a penalty notice and not be back down in time. Unless you’re a gazelle or super fit, put 3 hours on and take lots of stops and your time going up. Coming down is a doddle, but you can easily slip on the gravel sections. Kudos to anyone who walks The Wrekin regularly as it’s not for the faint hearted.
