Historical Spinalonga via Plaka

点评：Well worth a visit to this historical island.
Having read Victoria Hislop’s book ‘the Island’ based on the former leper colony it was amazing to see the site in person and in particular the old Venetian entrance, Hight Street, tunnel and chapel.
I came away having learnt so much more about the islands history - Venetian, Ottomans and then leper colony.
As a guide, I would suggest 1-2 hours.

I visited Friday 18th September 2026, via small boat from Plaka. At the time of writing, boats are approximately every 40 minutes at a cost of 10-12 euros per person (approx, 10-15 minutes each way).
Our boat left at 10am, and I recommend early morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat of midday/ early afternoon. At this time, there was ample space on the boat (half full) and the ride over was pleasant. Shade is available on the boat.
Entrance to the island was 20 euros per person (supporting the maintenance and restoration of the island’s historical features as well as staffing).
At this time of day, once past the entrance, it didn’t feel at all crowded.
Sensible shoes recommended (not flip flops!). Some uneven pathways so be mindful and understand accessibility prior to visit. Sun protection a must.
Recommend visiting Plaka before or after the island trip. I had a look around the few shops prior (purchasing hand made ceramics) and enjoyed a late lunch at Isla’s Bar and Restaurant noting sun loungers with beach access also provided free of charge to those purchasing refreshments. Overall spending the day at Plaka/ Spinalonga. I was already staying in Elounda (Elounda Bay Palace), but would recommend a trip to neighbouring Elounda as well.

我们的船在上午10点出发，我建议选择清晨或傍晚乘船，以避开中午至下午的酷热天气。当时船上乘客不多，只坐了一半左右，航行过程也很愉快。船上还提供遮阳处。进入该岛需支付每人20欧元的费用（这笔费用用于维护与修复岛上的历史遗迹以及支付工作人员薪酬）。
在这个时间段，穿过入口后，岛上一点也不显得拥挤。
建议穿着舒适的鞋子（千万别穿人字拖！）。岛上有些路面并不平整，因此参观前请务必留意路况及无障碍设施情况。防晒措施也必不可少。
建议在游览该岛之前或之后再去普拉卡。我先逛了几家商店（购买了手工陶瓷制品），随后在Isla酒吧及餐厅享用了一顿丰盛的午餐。注意到只要购买饮料或食物，就能免费使用带海滩通道的日光浴躺椅。总的来说，这一天就是在普拉卡/斯皮纳隆加度过的。我当时正下榻在埃洛乌达的埃洛乌达湾宫酒店，不过也强烈推荐去邻近的埃洛乌达镇逛逛。
