点评:Founded in 1089, the current buildings are constructed in the 18th-century. It's a gorgeous Baroque architecture.
Not being affected by any wars, its buildings and interior decorations are remarkably well-preserved. And now still serves as a monastery and church school.
The interior decorations, ceilings, and frescoes are exceptionally magnificent. The Royal Gallery and Museum house exquisite altar, artifacts, and treasures. (Photography is prohibited inside the monastery).
Another important cultural asset of the monastery is its library. Besides beautiful and ornate interior, its extensive collection of books and manuscripts/handwritten copies are of great academic value. Unfortunately, the library was under major renovations during our visit, so we were unable to see it in detail.
Our tour group taking a coach bus to the monastery. Alternatively, you can join a day trip from Vienna to Wachau valley and Melk abbey. Visitors can enjoy the stunning view of the monastery from the valley.
