点评:Phraya Nakhon Cave, in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, is the rare tourist site that earns its photographs.
Getting there is the whole point and the whole problem. From Bang Pu village you either take the small boat around the headland or climb the rocky path over it, roughly 400 metres of uneven stone with a serious gradient. Either way you land on Laem Sala beach, and the beach is only the intermission. The real ascent begins there: another 400-odd metres, this time straight up, over polished limestone steps of wildly inconsistent height, with handrails where the park could manage them and nothing at all where it could not. Allow thirty to forty minutes going up, more coming down, because descending wet rock is the part nobody warns you about.
A word of caution, offered kindly. The heat is considerable, the humidity total, and there is no shop between the beach and the cave, so carry more water than you think reasonable. Shoes with grip are not optional. If your knees are unreliable or your heart is under a doctor's supervision, this is one to admire from other people's photographs, and there is no shame in that.
One small pleasure I did not expect. Bring along anyone who has spent their life mixing up stalactites and stalagmites, and the confusion ends that morning, permanently. No, I shall not tell you, you have to go there
