Sadly, disappointing for what could have been a great cultural experience.
科伦坡国立博物馆的点评
点评：I have to say I was disappointed in the quality of what is the country's national museum. Located on Sir Marcus Fernando Mawatha this imposing two storey white ornate stone building dates back to 1877. Built specifically as a museum, and surrounded by wide green lawns, it oozes British colonialism. Open Tuesday to Sundays, between 9am and 6pm. Entry for foreigners is Rs. 1,500/adult (locals Rs. 100). We went on a Saturday afternoon and found it relatively quiet, with only small groups and individuals wandering the galleries.
The ground floor galleries are arranged in historical sequence, and the upper galleries thematically. It is a bit of a warren to navigate but there is clear one-way signposted path through the building, but no clear quick exit if you've seen enough. There are a number of outstanding pieces of the museum collection on display including the crown jewels and the throne of the last King of Kandy, which are worth seeing. Visiting all the 13 galleries should take you between 1-2 hours.
The building is not air conditioned, so it is generally hot stale air, unless you come across one of the large fans on the floor (where you will almost always find a museum guard/guide standing - don't blame them). The building is run down and in serious need of renovations, with most of the artefacts poorly curated/displayed. It is almost heartbreaking to look at the faded tapestries and paintings - knowing that they could be restored to their former glory or even just stored properly.
Strongly suggest that buy water or cool drinks before you enter, particularly if it is a hot/warm day, as you will need to frequently hydrate. There is a small kiosk on the upstairs level (drinks and ice-cream), but they only take cash (Rs.) and if you are a foreigner they will charge you more than the advertised price.
It is nowhere near the standards of national museums I have visited around the world., which unfortunately a reflection of how the Sri Lanka politicians appear to view the value of the country's history. This could easily be a cultural centrepiece if more money was spent on the building and the maintenance/curation of works/updating the displays. As an avid historian, I'm glad I visited the museum but disappointed with what I found.

强烈建议大家在进入之前购买些水或冷饮，尤其是在天气炎热的时候，因为你需要频繁补充水分。楼上有一个小售货亭（出售饮料和冰淇淋），但只接受现金支付（卢比）；如果你是外国人，他们还会收取比标价更高的费用。它远远达不到我在世界各地参观过的国家级博物馆的标准。这不幸地反映出斯里兰卡的政客们是如何看待本国历史价值的。如果能在博物馆的建设、藏品的维护与管理以及展览更新上投入更多资金，它完全有可能成为一个文化地标。作为一名历史爱好者，我很高兴自己参观了这座博物馆，但对所见内容却感到有些失望。
