点评：The Lieutenant Governor’s House is located on Barrington and Bishop Streets. The warm golden stone caught my eye, as we walked back to the ship.
In 1792, when he arrived to take up the position of Governor, Sir John Wentworth objected to the current and unsafe government house, which was falling apart. He saw his opportunity to correct this situation with some surplus and available land. Plans for a new Government House were commissioned and modeled upon a proper English country manor home, with its commanding view of Halifax harbor, lush greenery and rich soil. It would be the perfect setting for a manor home befitting a man of his stature and that of his wife. The building materials used were native to Nova Scotia. It has been the home and office of Lieutenant Governor’s for 210 years. Admission is free and the House is open to tours. I was impressed that the Lieutenant Governor and his family actually live in the House.
