Beautiful peaceful garden on a hot day

点评：We chose to visit instead of hiking in 37 degree heat. I think this was our 5th visit in about 10 years. Its lovely to see this rather secret, v peaceful Essex treasure flourish especially in such challenging dry conditions. The simple catering facilities with delicious cakes, lunches, teas and cold drinks are consumed in one of the most horticultural terraces youll find. They provide a delightful low key alternative to the more commercial garden catering operations. The mature woodland setting provides welcome shade and a natural setting for a diverse plant collection. As retired horticulralists we were drawn to the more unusual plants, the Cornus collection and the colourful seasonal herbaceous plants. We also explored the mixed island beds (reminiscent of The Dell garden) and woodland plantings. The plant sales area enables keen gardeners to take home a little memory of Green Island. Reasonably priced, great plant collection, v friendly staff and a garden cat made this a lovely way to spend the day.
