Diving Mnemba Atoll in Zanzibar with Dive Point

点评：Following. a recommendation through the PADI website and reading a couple of reviews, I chose Dive Point as my preferred dive Center for my trip to Zanzibar, and they did not disappoint.
It had been 4 years since my last dive so the day before my scheduled dives, I had booked a refresher which was undertaken by the dive master we would be diving with the following day.
Hassan was patient and diligent with the refresher, making sure we knew the safety checks and critical skills to keep us safe in the water. He also made sure we had all the required equipment and knew how to set it up. I dived with him for all 3 days.
Groups appear to be limited to 4 divers per dive master and there are three different dhow boats depending on the dive spots chosen for the day. We had the small boat on the first day and then a much larger boat for the remaining two days. It is a backward roll entry for all dives and one of my dive partners put her BCD on in the water as she had a bad back.
We didn’t do a dive without a current of some sort however they vary in strength and one even had an incredible rocking motion which we all loved. This means that sometimes you are swimming into the current and sometimes you are floating with it. As an Open Water diver, all our dives were limited to the depth that I could safely dive which allowed us to spend more time down there watching the sea-life.
I chose the two dives per day option but they do offer different options. I had originally only booked 2 days of diving but I enjoyed it so much, I added another day. This was very easy to book with the school (the couple I dived with for the 3 days booked their dives every afternoon rather than pre-booking). I know they also offer courses should you wish to learn to dive while there and from my perspective, these were very reasonably priced. And they offer snorkelling for those who don’t wish to go under the water but still want to experience the fish.
The breadth of sea-life around Mnemba Atioll is impressive and it was hard to catalogue everything we saw. I was particularly pleased to see Ocotpus as it was a first for me. We dived 6 different sites over the 3 days and I loved most of them.
Hassan our dive master was exceptional and made sure that we wanted for nothing. He did dive briefings before every dive and stayed close to us in case there were any issues. He advised on weight and readjusted mine - both on a dive when he saw I was getting lighter, and after a dive when he saw my trim was off. It took 2 dives and then I was sorted for the remaining 4. He took great joy in finding underwater creatures for us such as nudibranches, barracuda, mantis, moray, spotted rays and the octopi to name a few.
I didn’t have my own dive computer so he also shared all the dive information with me so I could update my log book and always made sure I felt safe both in and out of the water. As a solo traveller this is always very valuable to me.
I rented the equipment (apart from my mask and snorkel) and it was all in good condition and each dive master visibly checked all equipment before your buddy check and before getting in the water. I did have a problem with a regulator which had a slow leak once in the water and they swapped it out straight away. They were also willing to change cylinder size for a diver who wanted something heavier and with more air.
Your equipment usually meets you on the boat and then you are responsible for carrying it back afterwards, and rinsing it ready for the next day.
They serve tea and snacks (cake and fresh fruit) in between your dives and we saw the dolphins come past on one of our breaks. There are no bathrooms on board.
Overall everyone was really friendly at the dive center and all felt very experienced. They all put a lot of care into making my experience the very best it could be and I would definitely go back to them again.
