点评:We didn’t have time to visit the museum/exhibitions during our afternoon in Mechelen, but we spent around 40 minutes visiting the memorial which was free of charge. The signage around this wasn’t clear, so we couldn’t easily locate the memorial to begin with. Some of the information provided was in English, but mostly in other languages. There were listening devices you could pick up to hear accounts from those affected, but these didn’t have an English translation and neither did the short video towards the end of the exhibition. Maybe the memorial is more aimed at local people, but if there was more English translation, the experience could have been more immersive and engaging for us to connect with. There was a lift to access the lower floor, and also toilets in the exhibition which was helpful. There were lots of original papers and photos from many of the Jewish people who were callously deprived of their freedom and possessions. It’s such a harrowing time period and important to pay respect to the historical significance of this.
