点评：For me, the Arch of Xerxes was one of the most spectacular sections. His image, praising the symbol of Ahura Mazda, with its meticulous carvings, is reminiscent of the pyramidal empire that once ruled the world. The more I looked at the details of the robes, arms, and columns, the more I understood why this place is called the “Gallery of Ancient Iranian Sculpture.”
But the true grandeur of Naqsh-e Rustam, for me, lay behind one building: the Kaaba of Zoroaster. This cubic stone structure, with its mysterious simplicity, seemed to say in a thousand-year silence:
“They do not understand me, but they will never forget.”
That its exact function is still debated by historians (fireplace? archive? tomb?) only added to its allure. I sat by the Kaaba of Zoroaster and stared at the stones for hours. It is not just a historical monument, but a spiritual experience.
If you are interested in carvings, architecture and historical mysteries, don't miss Naqsh-e Rustam. Preferably, if you can, go early in the morning or at dusk; the low-angle light brings the shadows on the carvings to life and conveys a sense of pride and sadness of history.
