点评:Free admission with Historic Houses Association. Great to see that this interesting place has been restored by volunteers. It's an odd one because it is not a single cohesive building, but a rambling collection of adjoining wings and buildings of different ages. Obviously as the building was abandoned and emptied it is not filled with period furniture (some parts are partially furnished) and there are a lot of displays about the restoration, info about the building and a large Robert Peel/police museum.
There is a nice walled garden, small grounds with some amusing outdoor games to play. The tea rooms inside the hall weren't open. There is a tea room in the nearby courtyard, along with other shops, which served some distinctly mediocre food.
Despite it being the last Friday of the summer holidays when we visited, it was almost deserted and we just about had the place to ourselves.
