点评:We went on this hike as part of the Princess land excursions at the McKinley Lodge. The description of the nature walk on their website stated it was “ an easy stroll around the pristine and tranquil Byers Lake”. My husband and I thought great. It described how you may see beavers, bears, loons, trumpeter swans. Sounds nice. Except this was no ‘easy stroll’. It was more like a vigorous hike. The trail is a narrow path with numerous tree roots and rocks to maneuver around. In some parts the trail slopes off close to the lake. If a person is not careful you could fall in. To me it was a precarious situation. It was hard to view anything since I had to watch every step 90% of the time so I didn’t fall. Naturally I fell behind. We were almost at the end where you see a dock by the lake and the guide asked if I wanted to wait for her to come back and get me. Like what? No way I am going sit here someplace I’ve never been where a bear could be and wait 10 or 15 minutes for you to come get me. I didn’t say it but I thought it. I told her no, I will keep on going unless you think I’m slowing you down. So I continued on. I am happy I made it! However Princess needs to update the description and perhaps include warnings that the trail is narrow and full of tree roots and large rocks. We also never saw any kind of wildlife. All in all I’m glad I did it so I can say I accomplished something but never again.
