Lovely Butterfly Garden has Flowers and Hummingbirds too!

点评：A wonderful place to see muti-colored tropical butterflies inside a landscaped garden. Modest price for a very nice experience. Once you are inside the garden, you will pass pretty Amaryllis and Torch Gingers in full bloom. Next, is a room with large wooden cabinets holding all sizes of caterpillars & butterfly chrysalises. It was amazing how large The Blue Morpho catepillars are. They make the huge blue butterflies you will see once you get inside the garden. Behind the curtains at the entrance to the butterfly room with tropical plants and flowers. Flitting about and landing on the red and white Penta flowers, milkweed and blue bell shaped plants are many different colors of butterflies with long oval shaped wings. I spent several hour photographing the many shapes and sizes as they flitted from branch to branch over 2 separate visits. It became quite hot the second time I went which was later in the day. I would recommend visiting in the morning because I saw more activity in the AM. The property has other surprises around the corners too. After the butterflies, there is a section with several hummingbird feeders. I saw 3 kinds of hummers and several Bananaquits sipping sugar water. Behind them was a narrow feeding platform with bananas set out for other tropical birds. There was a large, gray tanager shaped bird I couldn't identify. A sly white cat was perched in the bushes behind the birds. He didn't seem to bother the birds as they ignored him. There is also a little pond in another section of the property that has two ducks with beautiful blue grey plumage. I can still picture in my mind all the different sections of the property. It must be a lot of work to keep this place in top shape and I really admire the owner for working hard to keep it in tip top shape. I did not visit the other Butterfly Garden in Mindo as it was 3 kilometers away from downtown and was more expensive.
