点评:The Musée de Flandre on the main square in Cassel is not large but absolutely worth seeing. On the ground floor, we saw many beautiful pieces, such as depictions of the Madonna and Child by Old Masters and works by Rubens and followers of Hieronymus Bosch and Rogier van der Weyden. We found the 16th-century ‘Virgin with a Bunch of Grapes’ by a follower of Quentin Matsys particularly moving. The presentation in semi-darkness really does the paintings justice. There are further thematically arranged rooms on the ground floor featuring more modern works. Upstairs, we perused the temporary exhibition entitled ‘Tout ange est terrible’ (Every angel is terrible) by Belgian visual artist, photographer, and video artist Marie-Jo Lafontaine. We weren’t quite sure what to make of her monumental black-and-white photos of children.
