Frostys Soft Play Centre的点评
点评：Really disappointed and upset by our experience here today
My daughter is autistic, non-verbal and has significant sensory needs. One of those needs is that she cannot tolerate wearing socks. I informed staff of this on entry and the girl on reception said she would need to ask if this was acceptable. When she came back she said my daughter wasn’t able to enter without socks. I purchased socks from the venue and, in front of the staff, I tried to put them on her. They could see for themselves that she simply couldn’t tolerate them due to her sensory needs, yet she was still refused entry.
I completely understand that businesses have rules around socks for hygiene and safety, but I was extremely disappointed by the complete lack of understanding or willingness to accommodate a disabled child, and particularly by the way the staff handled it. They were rude and dismissive rather than showing any empathy or trying to find a solution.
We have visited many other soft plays, trampoline parks, inflatable centres in uk and abroad and her inability to tolerate socks has never resulted in her being excluded. Other venues have been understanding and have found ways to accommodate her.
Being turned away caused her to have a huge meltdown. She is non-verbal and couldn’t understand why she was standing at the gate of a soft play she could see but wasn’t allowed to enter. She was screaming, hitting, lying on the floor and extremely distressed at the gate while staff simply stood and watched. Nobody showed any compassion, offered an alternative or made any attempt to help. Watching a disabled child become that distressed and seeing so little compassion from people working in a children’s venue was genuinely upsetting.
What makes this even more disappointing is the contrast with other local soft plays such as Jumping Joys and Cheeky Monkeys. We have always been made to feel welcome at these venues. They actively accommodate children with additional needs, with things such as ASN sessions and PECS signage, and we’ve never been made to feel that my daughter’s disability makes her a problem. In fact, we headed there after being refused here and had a lovely experience.
Overall, this simply did not feel like a particularly child-centred or family-friendly environment. Regardless of whether a child has additional needs, I would expect a business whose entire purpose is providing a space for children to show some basic compassion when a child is visibly distressed.
Families of children with additional needs already face enough barriers trying to find activities their children can access. I would recommend sticking to places such as Jumping Joys or Cheeky Monkeys, where children with additional needs are actually made to feel welcome. Especially after reading other reviews here from other parents of children with additional needs 😳
