Marina Beach的点评
点评：I visited Marina Beach one evening during my business trip to Chennai, mainly because I wanted to see one of the city's most famous attractions. It is a seriously wide and long stretch of beach, so there is plenty of space, although it can get very busy, especially in the evening.
I would definitely recommend coming later in the day rather than around noon. Chennai can get brutally hot, and the evening was much more pleasant, with a nice breeze and plenty of people coming out to enjoy the beach. It also gives the place a much livelier atmosphere.
There are loads of stalls along the beach selling everything from seafood and Indian snacks to various street food. There were also several little carnival style games and activities, which made it feel very local rather than like a typical tourist beach.
The downside is that some areas are unfortunately quite dirty. There was quite a bit of rubbish around, and it seems that some visitors simply leave their trash behind rather than looking for a bin. So don't expect a pristine, postcard perfect beach.
If you're planning to spend some time there, bring your own beach towel or something to sit on, as I wouldn't necessarily want to sit directly on the sand in some areas. Comfortable shoes or sandals are also a good idea, especially if you want to walk along the beach and explore the stalls.
Overall, Marina Beach is worth visiting, particularly in the evening. It's not the kind of beach I'd visit expecting crystal clear water or a spotless shoreline, but it is a lively and very local part of Chennai that gives you a glimpse of everyday life in the city. Grab a snack, walk around, enjoy the breeze and watch the crowds. Just keep an eye on your rubbish and leave the beach a little cleaner than you found it.
