点评:Located in Tokyo’s Chuo ward next to Tokyo Bay, Hamarikyu Gardens is the former family garden of the Tokugawa Shogun during the 17th century, eventually being opened to the public in 1946. My adult son and I visited there mid-morning on a Monday during January 2026.
The gardens are quite large, over 250,000 square meters, and features pine trees, cherry trees, plum trees, flower fields, several ponds, and a teahouse. Given the time of year very little was blooming other than plum blossoms, but the landscaping was beautiful nonetheless. We especially appreciated stopping at the teahouse, where we could take off our shoes and enjoy some matcha and Japanese confections in a serene, relaxed setting.
We walked to the gardens from tourist-packed Tsukiji Market, and the peacefulness was quite the welcome change. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Hamarikyu Gardens and can recommend it anyone looking to temporarily escape the urban noise of Tokyo.
