点评：This is a oldest surviving building and important heritage site in Kaikoura, providing a link to the town's early colonial and whaling history. The Flyff House is located along Avoca Street and can be conveniently visited before or after the seeing the seal colony or doing a bit of hiking around Point Kean further down the Kaikoura Peninsula.
The Flyff House was originally built in the 1840s and is uniquely situated upon a foundation of whale bones. The house changed hands a few times and was finally turned over the state to become a heritage site and museum in the 1980s. Today, it can be visited between 12pm to 5pm (Wed - Mon), closed on Tuesdays. Entry fee is NZ$12 per adult, $6 per students.
Caretakers within the Flyff House provide a nice 10-15 minute history of the house, those who lived here and some interesting related information. You can then walk through the old house, most of which is in its original condition. There is also a gift shop, original garden outside the house, foundations of the old Pier Hotel, old chimney ruin, old wharf remains and other interesting things to see around the museum grounds if you have a few extra minutes to explore.
