Spirits not to be missed at waterfront Kelowna among all the wineries!
Okanagan Spirits Craft Distillery的点评
点评：This distillery is a gem in the heart of Okanagan wine country, 1 block off Waterfront Park on Bernard St in Kelowna, We visited for wine but found this as a side trip for tasting locally produced whiskey and gin. The tasting room is posh in the style of a 1920s speakeasy, with inside seating on overstuffed love seats and outside patio seating, in addition too the tasting bar.
Our host, Wyatt, took us through the basic tasting list of single Malt and BRBN (bourbon style) whiskies, and the Family Reserve London Dry, and Cucumber/Mint gins. These were all very nicely done spirits, but Wyatt took us further with a taste of their specialty port- barrel aged whisky, 5 years in white oak and 3 1/2 years in "wet" port barrels direct from local wineries once the port is bottled (leaving the barrels with a slight bit of port and robbing a bit of the "angel's share" lost to evaporation in this arid climate). This proved to be an exceptional whisky, easily competitive with a 15 or 18 year old Scotch.
Wyatt was exceptionally knowledgeable about not only this distillery's products, but various aspects of these spirits and production generally. We spent a good 40 minutes (not very busy at that moment) in conversation, sharing favored spirits and learning from Wyatt about production.
We took a total of 8 bottles split between the Laird of Fintry port aged whiskey and gins. They also serve a variety of mixed cocktails, if you want just a cool drink on a hot day. Overall, this was a highlight among our week of wine tasting in the Okanagan valley and, if you have any interest in whiskey, gin, or fruit liquors, this is not to be missed.
