点评:Goðafoss is a beautiful glacial waterfall with excellent views and good, well-maintained paths providing several different vantage points.
Unlike waterfalls fed mainly by local rainfall or springs, Goðafoss is part of a river system originating in Iceland’s glacial highlands. Glacial water can carry extremely fine particles of rock, often called glacial flour, created as moving ice grinds against the underlying rock. These suspended particles scatter the light and can give the water its striking milky turquoise or blue-green colour — particularly beautiful when the light is right.
One path takes you right down towards the water’s edge. It becomes quite narrow and can be slippery, so some care is needed, particularly if you have mobility issues. The effort is worthwhile, though, as the views from below are beautiful and there are plenty of photographic opportunities from different angles.
My only disappointment was being on an organised bus tour, which allowed us only about one hour at Goðafoss. That is enough to enjoy the waterfall, but certainly not enough if you are a keen photographer and want to explore all the viewpoints and take time composing your shots.
I could easily have spent two or three hours here with my camera. A beautiful Icelandic waterfall and definitely worth visiting — just allow considerably more time if photography is important to you.
