点评:Don’t buy leisure membership. The management have repeatedly made super cheap spa offers. This has resulted in the facilities being absolutely overrun with people. The gym and swimming pool are open to spa guests and so members who pay a not insubstantial fee are sidelined. It’s often impossible to swim as the pool is full of people who simply want to lounge and take in the view. Not their fault. The hotel is trying to cater for two different groups of people who want different things. Members want to exercise and swim and spa guests want to relax and soak in a hot tub. The problem being that 4 of the 6 hot tubs have been broken for several weeks so the only place to soak is the small swimming pool. Today there were 30 spa guests in. The people buying these cheap spa deals often seem to have no idea of pool etiquette. Frequently they walk in front of swimmers or start to swim directly towards them in their path. They stand chatting in large groups so that’s it quite difficult to find a lane to swim in. They frequently use the steam room and sauna then go directly to the pool without showering off the sweat (urgh!) and the pool is now constantly cloudy due to all the products that have not been washed off before entering the water. (Because we have to look glamorous for instagram) There is a distinct culture that spa guests are more important than members, which is a change since the new owners took over. The fast turnover of staff, most of whom are young and inexperienced, makes matters worse. I don’t want to be addressed as ‘love’ by a young person who is chatting to another young staff member while lounging with his feet on a coffee table when I approach the bar to order coffee. Yes that really did happen in this 4* hotel. Not do I want to be left with nowhere to sit after my session because every single seat is reserved for spa lunches/ cake/ afternoon tea etc. by the way, if you’re a hotel guest you can only use the facilities before 9 o’clock so forget that lie in! And there used to be a nice patio to sit on with a morning coffee but now it’s full of hot tubs so you can forget that!
