点评:Perched majestically atop an isolated rocky hill at 80 metres above the Danube River, the Bratislava Castle is visible from almost anywhere in the city and is undoubtedly the symbolic pride of Bratislava. The massive rectangular building encloses a courtyard and has 4 towers sprouting from each corner. Although the castle dates back to the 13th century, it has undergone numerous reconstruction over the centuries, and the structure that you see today was only reconstructed in the 1950s in the Baroque architectural style. Today, it houses the Museum of History, showcasing historical objects and artifacts relating to Slovakia's history. Admission to the museum will set you back by €14 and includes access to the Crown Tower. The exhibits come across as rather haphazard and lacks the cohesive flow in the re-telling of the city's or country's history. But this is more than compensated by the panoramic views overlooking the Danube River and the historic city centre from the castle compound and the well-maintained Baroque gardens, which can be enjoyed for free. In summary, this castle is nowhere near the elegance and glamour of most other European city centre castles or fortresses, but nevertheless, it's still a monument that pays homage to Slovakia's history and would be a shame if missed whilst you're already there in Bratislava.
