点评:The Museum displays were very informative and the stories behind them were even more informative. It was free, but donations were appreciated.
We very much appreciated a knowledgeable, experienced tour guide (Stan) with us to tell us stories about the planes and the pilots and his own former role. He knew his stuff. All kinds of older planes, uniforms, tools, photos, etc.. were seen and discussed.
Upon arrival, it was difficult to find disability parking due to the way the arrows were pointing on the signage as you drove in. We were there early, so there were no other cars to help us figure it out by seeing a full parking lot. We ended up coming in the back door and wandering here and there until we found the front desk volunteer.
I had a nearly 90 year old military airplane buff on the tour who had a cane and who hadn't stood for 15 minutes without sitting in years, and who was led around an enormous campus for four hours with very little opportunity to rest. It was our bad that we didn't bring a wheelchair, but his pride wouldn't allow it. It ended up being a real struggle at the end.
I wish the tour guide had tuned into him and his struggles for finding a seat and taking a break and modifying the tour for him. I get that there was one extra agile person along besides our own group of three, but we came on this tour for my 90 yr old father. Drove across country, even, to go to the museum. It was one of his "dying" wishes to see this museum. So, next time, I would have a wheelchair along. And.... I would also hope that more options for helping the old guys coming for visit are insisted upon. Either more sitting time and spaces, portable wheelchairs to borrow (not scooters), or shorter tours so we could manage our needs for ourselves. And more awareness from the guides. My father was embarrassed to ask for help. Ah, the joys of aging and being a macho guy.
