点评：Disappointing for the price and not what was advertised
The host was very kind and pleasant, and I appreciate the time she spent with us. However, I left the experience quite disappointed, particularly given the €69/$80 price and what was advertised.
The experience is advertised as a 3-hour berry and mushroom foraging experience with expert knowledge of berries and mushrooms. In reality, the experience lasted approximately two hours at most, and we spent the majority of the time on an established/human-made path rather than actually going deeper into the forest to forage.
Most importantly, I specifically told the host beforehand that I had driven approximately three hours each way—a six-hour round trip—to attend this experience, and that I was particularly excited about learning about and searching for mushrooms. Unfortunately, we did not really spend any time actively looking for mushrooms. When I spotted mushrooms myself and asked what they were, the host was unable to identify them, and I ultimately had to use a mushroom-identification app on my phone to find out what I had found. For an experience that specifically advertises expert mushroom knowledge, this was particularly disappointing.
The berry portion was also underwhelming. We essentially gathered a small amount of wild blueberries, which are extremely easy to find independently on hiking trails and throughout Finland. In fact, I gathered considerably more berries by myself on a separate hike than I did during this experience.
There was also some confusion regarding the berries we foraged. At the end, I asked whether I could keep the berries I had personally gathered, and the host seemed surprised that I wanted to take them. I had assumed that the berries gathered by the guest would be theirs to take home. The host had also collected her own bucket of berries, which I initially assumed might be part of what the guest was able to take home, but she kept those as well. This wasn’t clearly communicated to me beforehand.
Ultimately, I feel that I paid €69 for an experience that amounted largely to picking a few wild blueberries—something visitors can very easily do on their own almost anywhere in Finland. For that price, and especially considering the travel time involved, I expected substantially more instruction, exploration, and actual foraging.
My advice to future guests: if your main interest is simply picking wild blueberries, you can easily do this yourself on a hike in Finland and save the money.
My advice to the host: if mushroom foraging is going to be a central part of the advertised experience, I would strongly encourage putting more emphasis on actively searching for mushrooms with guests and ensuring that you can confidently identify the mushrooms encountered. I would also recommend clearly explaining beforehand what guests can expect to take home from the foraging.
I genuinely wish I had left feeling that the experience was worth the price, but unfortunately, it did not meet the expectations created by the description.
