点评:We reached here after 6pm with the curiosity to see a American University closely. WE parked our car in parking lot and walked inside for around 45 minutes. Beautiful surroundings, lot of trees, wide roads with separate walking path, old heritage building mixed with new buildings of different education departments makes the visit pleasant.
The Kane Hall carillon bell tower and a metallic modern sculpture on the Red Square are interesting. The brick tower is a ventilation shaft for Kane Hall, topped with a 47-bell carillon installed in 2018. The other attraction was an iconic Broken Obelisk sculpture created by American artist Barnett Newman (1905–1970). It is an inverted, four-sided obelisk balancing on the apex of a pyramid, made of Cor-Ten steel. A bronze marker or plaque is installed there giving the information about this.
We were at Rainier Vista and had clear amazing views of Mt. Rainier, situated approx. 50 miles away. The University area is designed & developed in such a way to preserve the Rainier Vista. Lastly, we were at WWII Memorial Plaza at the base of the flagpole on Memorial Way inside the University of Washington. It is a tribute to the 585 students, alumni, faculty, and staff who lost their lives in combat or direct support roles during World War II (1939–1945). It was Created by Seattle artist Jon Gierlich and dedicated in 2001, the bronze-wrapped flagpole base and surrounding rings symbolize the transition from peace, to war, and back to peace again. The names of the fallen are etched directly onto the bronze plaques wrapped around the flagpole base. One can come here by Govt. run buses also. After this we enjoyed our dinner at University Village at walking distance, a very beautiful market place.
