A Perfect NC Mountain Orchard Day- You Wil LOVE It!

I honestly don’t know where to start except to say: if you have the opportunity to visit Jeter Mountain Farm, GO!
I was a little hesitant to plan a visit for our family because so many of the reviews I had read mentioned how crowded it can get. I am so glad I didn’t let that stop us. Every single member of our family—even the hardest to please—absolutely loved our day here.
We reserved a 10:00 a.m. wagon ride and arrived around 9:40, about 20 minutes before the official opening time. There were already quite a few people there, so I was glad we had reserved our wagon ride in advance. Even though we were early, a staff member was already there to greet us with a smile and friendly conversation. That warm hospitality continued throughout our visit.
We started with the wagon ride into the orchard, where we were given simple instructions about where and how to pick. We picked Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, and McIntosh apples, and they were beautiful! The trees were loaded with fruit, and even with plenty of other visitors around, we never felt crowded or rushed.
Our 2-year-old grandson may have loved it most of all. He had the best time picking apples and putting them into his little basket and absolutely did not want to leave the orchard. And, most importantly, the apples were delicious!
After picking, we were ready for something cold because it was hot. The apple cider slushies were some of the best I’ve ever had—great apple flavor and not overly sweet. My husband chose a cup of cold cider and really enjoyed it, while my sons tried a flight of hard ciders and gave those high marks as well.
From there, we shopped in the market, took pictures of the gorgeous flowers, and had lunch from the burger stand and 1813 Smokehouse. Everything we tried was really good, but those tater tots and aioli deserve a special mention!
One of my favorite parts of the day was simply sitting and listening to the live bluegrass music while watching the children dance. It was one of those little moments that just felt like the perfect NC mountain afternoon.
Before leaving, we stood in a pretty long line for fresh, hot apple cider doughnuts—and they were absolutely worth the wait! Honestly, even the line wasn’t unpleasant. Everyone was friendly, and we enjoyed talking with the people around us while we waited.
Jeter Mountain Farm is beautiful, scenic, incredibly clean, well organized, and somehow relaxing even with a lot of people there. We stayed for several hours and enjoyed every single minute.
Some may feel the price for the wagon ride and picking basket is a little high, but for us, it was worth every penny. Seeing our entire family—from our 2-year-old grandson to the adults—having such a wonderful day together made it a great value.
This was so much more than just picking apples. It was a wonderful family day and exactly the kind of authentic NC mountain experience we were hoping for. We would go back again and again!
