点评:PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING – SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS
Our experience raised serious concerns regarding passenger safety, hygiene, first aid provision and the response to a medical emergency. When we raised our concerns, we found the response dismissive and rude.
The sea conditions that day were extremely rough. Guests at our hotel booked with another operator had their trip cancelled due to the conditions. Our trip still went ahead.
Once outside the harbour, the boat was moving so violently it was difficult to stand safely. In our opinion, these conditions were unsuitable for an excursion carrying so many families and young children.
Access to the boat was via a very high, steep ramp, with further steep steps on board. We also found the tables and general environment unhygienic.
Staff brought around a macaw for photographs. The bird appeared distressed and attempted to bite its handler. Guests were encouraged to pose with props and purchase expensive photographs. Children were then offered additional paid activities. The experience felt heavily focused on selling extras.
MY THREE-YEAR-OLD SUFFERED A HEAD INJURY
The most serious incident occurred when my three-year-old son fell and cut his head open.
For a vessel reportedly carrying up to 1,200 passengers, we expected adequate first aid equipment and staff who knew how to use it.
Instead, the supplies appeared extremely limited. Cotton wool was used to try to stop the bleeding and staff appeared unsure what first aid equipment was available.
Following the injury, our son became drowsy and extremely difficult to rouse. We wanted to leave the boat so he could receive medical assessment, but were told the sea conditions meant it was not possible to safely get us off the vessel.
Being stuck at sea with a three-year-old who had sustained a head injury and was becoming increasingly drowsy was terrifying.
We then had to remain on board.
The foam party raised further concerns. Children were running on extremely slippery surfaces and struggling to stay upright. Staircases did not appear adequately restricted or supervised despite wet foam spreading around the boat. In our opinion, this presented a serious fall risk.
Later, my daughter was sick. Despite asking several times for it to be cleaned, a bowl of water was eventually obtained and the vomit was effectively washed around the floor. The contaminated table was not properly cleaned.
We were left with a wet, contaminated floor, an unhygienic table and a three-year-old with a head injury. The meal of chicken and salad was also served on tables we already felt were unhygienic. Basic hygiene and infection-control procedures appeared inadequate.
The swim stops caused further concern. There appeared to be no clear system for accounting for how many passengers were in the sea at any given time.
With such large passenger numbers, there should be controlled entry and exit points, limits on numbers in the water, head counts and active crew supervision. Given the sea conditions, we also questioned whether swimming should have taken place at all.
Several passengers commented on how unsafe they felt the conditions were that day.
In our opinion, this excursion requires a serious review of its safety procedures. Staff should have appropriate first aid training, adequately stocked first aid equipment and clear procedures for medical emergencies. Hygiene procedures and supervision of water activities also need improvement.
Commercial considerations should never come before passenger safety. If weather and sea conditions are unsafe, excursions should be cancelled.
When we finally disembarked, we had been promised assistance getting our son to hospital. Instead, we climbed down the same steep access point and were left without the support promised.
Based on our experience, I could not recommend this trip to another family. Please research carefully and read previous reviews before booking.
