点评:I popped down to Bleak City for a bit of culture last weekend, and part of this mission was checking out the current Rome exhibition at the Melbourne Museum. Having purchased a general pass for this, I was able to rock up not long after opening and found myself quickly immersed in the wonders of Ancient Roman history. It was fairly impressive, ranking well up there with some other exhibitions I've seen at the National Museum in Canberra, focused on similar themes. Having spent about 90 minutes wandering the displayed artefacts I then went for a further explore...and thats when my experience dropped off a bit.
Having already paid to go into the Rome exhibition I was disappointed to see that I needed to pay another $18 to get in to see the remainder of the museum. This wasn't what I expected, but I thought okay...I'll take the hit. However, the line up to buy tickets was absurdly long, and when I tried to use the Melbourne Museum web site to purchase online the process was as functional as a chocolate teapot. So, considering there were other things I could see and do in Melbourne, and my time was limited, I pulled the pin and left. It's a shame but seriously, what should've been an epic visit was soured a little by the clumsy and dare I say expensive entry payment process.
So, in summary, I loved the special Rome exhibition (though the memorabilia shop at the exit was a little light on for worthy souveniers), but the rest of the Melbourne Museum was a no go for me.
