点评:We visited the Deep after hearing so many recommendations about it online. It’s our own fault we visited on a Friday during the school holidays just before a bank holiday weekend but it was rammed with people. Families, coach trips, community groups etc. We’d booked a timed entry online but this didn’t seem to matter a jot, and there didn’t seem to be any max capacity numbers attached to each time entry.
Due to the large volume of visitors there were lots of bottleneck areas which meant queuing to turn a corner or waiting for people to finish cajoling their kids into photos before you get to see any fish.
It’s very low lighting (understandably) throughout but this does mean there are poorly supervised and overstimulated children falling over left right and centre and you may spend more time avoiding kids than looking at the exhibits.
The exhibits and the aquarium itself is very interesting with lots to see and do for all ages and interests. Particular highlights are the underwater tunnel and penguins and these are some of the most popular areas of the building.
I think the entry pricing is very reasonable as it becomes an all-year pass. There’s two restaurants inside and a gift shop. Be prepared to queue to use lifts. The lift for the exit was over 15 minutes long, the alternative is 81 stairs.
