点评:The trek to Double decker bridge is not so easy. It starts at the parking lot of Tyrna village with a descent of 3500 concrete stairs to reach Nongriant village. These steps are steep and narrow at certain junctions. While everyone curiously begins the walk, and give up in the first one third of the trail. It happens with us also as we got exhausted in first one hour or so. But not gave up. Walked slowly and finished complete trek also visited Rainbow falls which is another one hour journey from Double Decker bridge. Be Mindful and take frequent breaks than mechanically walking down.
The trekking path passes through villages and bush fences. One has to cross three suspension bridges to reach to double decker Root Bridge. The first iron suspension bridge is characteristically interesting but can be daunting. Following two bridges relatively steady though they are at a higher height. Expect the trek to take half a day on a leisurely pace. We left Hotel in Shillong @ 09:00 am and reached the base village from our rented scooty. After approximately 2000 steps, we reached the village, greeted by the sight of homestays and shops. At the village, you could see two ways, one taking you to the way to the single living root bridge and other route taking to you double decker living root bridge. Here if anyone feel not comfortable to trek further, then they visit single living root bridge and returns to the base camp. We have decided to visit double decker bridge so we continued our trek. Started our trek @ 11:30 am and reached to Root Bridge by 02:15 pm and from there we went to Rainbow falls by 04:00 pm and returned from there immediately as we were getting delayed and thought to reach parking lot before sunlight goes off and fortunately reached there by 06:25 pm.
Why it is called a Living Root Bridge
This remarkable bridge termed as Living because they are composed of living roots. It is a great way to witness an ancient wonder created by the local tribes. Living root bridges are a perfect example of amalgamation between nature and human effort. The root bridges range from 50 to 100 feet and take almost 15 years to become functional. The bridges are alive and still growing and gain strength over time.
Tips for your Trip:
1. You just carry one water bottle and no need to carry unnecessary stuff. Food and snacks stalls are available throughout the trek so no need to carry any snacks or food items.
2. Start your trek in the morning as early as possible, preferably @ 10:00 am so that you can cover all places and return to base camp relaxly.
3. While going from base camp to destination you find man villages and people who stay there. Give respect to them and be polite with villagers and try to not disturb them.
