点评：My mother and I had an incredible tour of the Cape Town Diamond Museum at the V&A Waterfront, and Maxine deserves a very enthusiastic recommendation of her own. She was an absolute star and such a significant part of what made the experience memorable.
The museum has a fascinating subject: the formation of diamonds, their place in South African history, and the extraordinary skill involved in cutting and polishing them. There is so much behind a finished stone, and that combination of geology, history and craftsmanship gives the visit real substance.
Maxine brings that subject to life. Her knowledge and enthusiasm make the experience engaging, and her warmth makes it a pleasure to spend time with her. She has the kind of presence that makes you interested in what she is explaining and curious to learn more. That ability to communicate is a tremendous skill, and she deserves recognition for it.
What makes this such a worthwhile experience is the opportunity to appreciate everything behind the jewellery: the natural processes, the history, and the work involved in creating something so intricate. Having an excellent guide makes that experience especially rewarding, and we felt very fortunate to have Maxine.
For anyone planning time at the Waterfront, I would enthusiastically recommend including the museum in your visit. It offers plenty to interest anyone curious about history, science or craftsmanship, as well as people who already love jewellery. If you have the opportunity to take the tour with Maxine, take it.
